This strategy can help you jump higher,
Run faster,
Become all around more powerful…
Depending on how you use it.
It’s called contrast training.
And it helps you turn all your strength into more explosive power.
Here’s how it works:
Have you ever picked something up that you thought would be heavy?
And you ended up lifting it way faster than you predicted?
That’s how Contrast Training works.
You perform a strength movement,
For this example, let’s say, a squat,
Then you perform an unweighted dynamic movement that utilizes the same muscles…
Like a hurdle jump,
Power Bounds,
Or even a sprint.
When you perform that heavy compound lift, you’re heightening the nervous system.
This creates post-activation potentiation.
PAP is essentially a short term performance boost created by that heightening of the nervous system. So, when you go to perform that explosive, plyometric movement, you have higher rate of force development,
More explosiveness,
More power.
Essentially, by using this method correctly you’re tricking your body into becoming more explosive! That’s why I utilize this in my programming and why I love it!
